Message: This is a sociological survey among students of secondary schools and universities as well as among PhD students. Nearly 1,500 students took part in the survey. The aim was to assess the interest of young people to study natural sciences and work in research and development. The survey was questionnaire based.
Personally I was surprised by the fact that around one third of grammar school students demonstrated deep interest in natural sciences. On the contrary, the reason for the general lack of interest was above all the complexity and difficulty of natural sciences and the constant need for education and self-improvement. Such demands, however, are in my opinion not only typical for natural sciences but apply as well to for example humanities or engineering disciplines. This proves that chemistry is widely understood as an above-average difficult discipline while not so much interesting, enjoyable or rewarding – which I think is a shame.
The article and its aim are relevant and matching the project\'s main aim
