DESCRIPTION
Please describe the teaching resource taking into consideration:

• The prerequisites: there is no prerequisite. Those tools are addressed to first grade (secondary school students (12-14 years old).

• The contents

The website offers many resources about water (animations, videos, texts, diagrams…). Those resources are sorted by topic.

Each topic is subdivided in several modules that can be used autonomously (cf. below).

The common thread of each module is a text with soundtrack. Some words (or group of words) of the texts are hyperlinks to animations, videos, diagrams ...

 Theme 1: Physical and chemical properties of water

- Module 1: Presence of water in the living on Earth and in the Universe
- Module 2: Changes of state of water and their properties
- Module 3: Water cycle
- Module 4: Homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures: water as a solvent
- Module 5: Recovering the components of water
 Theme 2: Quantities and units

- Module 1: Mass and volume (liquid and solid)
- Module 2: Mass, volume and changes of state
- Module 3: Temperature, pressure and changes of state

 Theme 3: Industrial operations on water

- Module 1: Channelling and sample: bottle water and tap water
- Module 2: Potabilization and drinking water system. Stocking, distributing and purifying
- Module 3: Sparkling water
 Theme 4: Water resources and pollution

- Module 1: A resource unfairly shared. A crisis foretold
- Module 2: Fight against pollutions and wasting
- Module 3: Meteorology and climatology
- Module 4: Impacts of pollutions on ecosystems and man’s health

• The aims
• Task Description

Teachers who are registered on the website have access to all its resources. Indeed, it is made up of four working tools to manage the documents chosen, the teaching sequence and the students groups in a functional way. Here is a brief description of those tools:

- Attaché case: the teacher can choose resources (texts, animations, videos…) and list them in this tool in order to build customised teaching sequences.

- Teaching sequence: with this tool the teacher can integrate the documents from the attaché case in a learning sequence. The teacher will just need to design the proceedings of the sequence adding objectives, the skills exercised, instructions … and assign the sequence to a group of students.

- Group: the teacher first creates groups of students that s/he will manage during the learning sequence. The students can log in with a password.

- Statistics: with this tool the teacher can follow the pages looked up by the groups of students.

• How to use it in class

This website can be a functional tool within the framework of a project carried out by the class on the topic of water.
The teacher can delineate/manage/regulate the students’ searches thanks to the four tools at their disposal on the website (cf. above).
This research activity can be carried out in groups. It can lead to oral presentations to train communication skills.

In a more traditional way, the teacher can display in the classroom with a video projector or an interactive whiteboard very rich and varied resources integrated in a customised lesson sequence.
COMMENTS
Please provide information about:
• Points of strength

This website is a very functional tool for the teacher in the conception of its learning sequences. Indeed, it provides various tools to design/regulate/differentiate the learning according to the various groups of students.
The topic chosen is very interesting at the pedagogic level. Water is all around us, it is an unavoidable study subject in chemistry.
The user has access to those various resources sorted according to the topic or module but also through a search engine.
The teacher registered on the website has also access to two other interesting websites http://www.terra-sigsvt.com/ et http://www.education-developpement-durable.fr/.

• Points of weakness

It is for teachers only.

• Scientific reliability

All the resources are scientifically approved.

• Pedagogic value

The tools are rich and varied but they are all media tools. Including experimental approaches by topic and/or module would have been interesting. However, since it is easy to use these tools autonomously, the teacher can include personal experimental approaches.
