DESCRIPTION
“Acessa Física” integrates a set of educational resources (audiovisual, audio, software and experimental protocols) devoted to teach Physics to intermediate level students. It provides the following modules: Fluids, Thermal Physics, Wave Physics, Modern and Contemporary Physics, Astronomy, Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Optics, and, Physics and Technology. Each of these modules starts with a teacher guide (both audiovisual and written guide are provided) and presents a list of the associated resources. Audiovisual and audio media were used mostly to illustrate concepts in a qualitative fashion, while software and experimental protocols are mainly dedicated to illustrate quantitative aspects. The contents are presented by “The curious” illustrating a couple of students and contents can be chosen by “Module type” or “Media type”. Alternatively, a complete list of resources could be obtained. In conclusion, the presented resources can be used accordingly to the purposed teacher guide or independently to illustrate a particular concept.
“Acessa Física” presents a collection of 24 videos, 16 audio records, 19 experimental protocols and 13 software packages:
The videos last 12 minutes and have a motivational purpose rather than being self-explicative. They serve to promote students inquire and introduce concepts that could be further developed at class environment by using the complementary activities suggested in the associated teacher guide.
Audio records last 10 minutes (5 plus 5) and aim at introduce curious contents related to physics. Humor, dynamism and challenging situations are presented as a strategy to motivate student interest.
Experimental protocols are presented in html text with a pleasant design and intuitive navigation. They are dedicated to teachers that could implement the experiments at class. These protocols are complemented with other teacher’s opinion, and some are accompanied by a video record to illustrate concepts and experimental procedures.
Software packages aim at cover physics subjects underexplored by other projects or web sites. They illustrate concepts in a quantitative fashion, whenever this approach is desired by the teacher or needed by the nature of involved concepts.
COMMENTS
The project “Acessa Física” was created by the Brazilian Ministry of Education and Ministry of Science and Technology” following the Edital 01/2007 whose objective was to support programs devoted to multimedia educational contents production in the areas of Mathematics, Portuguese, Physics, Chemistry and Biology for intermediate level students.
This is a very interesting site where physics contents are explored rigorously from a scientific point of view using an appealing, intuitive and user-friendly interface. Nevertheless the site is presented as physics devoted one it includes several materials that can be used in chemistry classes. This is a valuable tool for physics-chemistry teachers.
Face to the presented quality, attractiveness and pedagogical approach, we believe that this site could be used as a model for other science teaching resources.
