Prof. Dr Adriana Tafrova - Grigorova, expert in Chemistry Network Project from Research Laboratory of chemical education, history and philosophy of Chemistry - Sofia University (Project associated partner) presented plenary paper “Education for enhancing scientific literacy”, during the 45th National Conference of Chemistry Teachers, first plenary session, on 25th of October 2013 in Gabrovo. The presentation put the stress on the current situation with scientific school education, negative processes related to the underestimation of scientific education, particularly chemical one, the lack of finances and modern laboratory equipment, insufficient teachers ICT competency etc., and the progressively deterioration of students’ scientific literacy. She also mentioned the Chemistry is all around Network and the conference held in June under the Project As a good start of discussion on the problems of chemistry teachers’ qualification.

Outcomes and Results:
The presentation gave general analysis of current Bulgarian science education, with its weak and strong points and defines possible ways to improve the education for enhancing scientific literacy. Project results were shared with large number of chemistry teachers, university professors, experts in chemistry education and policymakers from Bulgarian Ministry of education
