Description of Dissemination Event:
Scientific project “Science from Grandmother’s Drawer” was developed by students from Aprilov National High School, associated partner of TU – Gabrovo in Chemistry is all around Network Project. The project was set up under the scientific guidance of Maria Nikolova and Ilka Boyanova – Chemistry teacher in the school, involved into the Project activities. The project’s goal was to build a bridge between the present science and technology and the history of Bulgarian crafts from the middle and end of the 19th century. In an attractive and untraditional way physical and chemical processes and technologies used in the production and dyeing of “gaytans” (woolen braiding) are being explained from the point of view of modern science. The project was successfully presented during the National Festival and Fair “Science on Stage”. The performance was highly evaluated and awarded by the jury. The young scientific artists were also delegated to represent officially Bulgaria during the International Festival “Science on stage” in March, 2013, in Germany. Outcomes and Results:
The project is a perfect example how to combine the history with the scientific present of chemical technologies in understandable and attractive way for students. It is also a prove that the development of scientific projects is an efficient approach to enhance the students’ motivation in learning chemistry making them active participants in the process of project development
