NAME AND SURNAME

AFFILIATION
Collège Sainte Véronique, Liège
ROLE IN THE PROJECT
Teacher
TITLE OF TEACHING RESOURCE
BBC School Science (Particle model, Atoms and elements, Compounds and mixtures)
Topics related to the resource
The website presents 6 activities related to
• Particle model*
• Behaviour of matter
• Atoms and elements*
• Compounds and mixtures*
• Acids, bases and metals
• pH experiment
Examples of learning objectives
It’s a more “visual” and animated way to present chemistry.
Practical information regarding the use
of the site/simulation...
Flash, Javascript and sound are needed to run the activities.
Information about the class
The 3* activities have been tested in the “College Sainte Véronique, Liège – Belgium” with one class of 16 students in year 3.
Suggestion for use
It was impossible to use the resource in the “IT room” with individual computers as the students had to listen to the comments and explanations. We used one computer connected to a screen.
Insights into student
use / thinking
They enjoyed the interaction but it was limited as only one student had the possibility to run the activity in front of the class.
Teacher’s conclusions
The activities are pleasant but to be really efficient, they need to be included in a lesson using, for example, the interactive whiteboard (and ask a student to be volunteer to run them in front of the class).

National Reports on successful experiences to promote lifelong learning for chemistry The national reports on chemistry successful experiences to promote lifelong learning for chemistry are now available on the related section of the project portal. The reports presents examples of successful experiences in the partner countries and the results of testing of ICT resources with science teachers.
