Concepts on general chemistry for secondary school level are needed.

Contents:
This project aims to provide resources on the teaching of chemistry and focus attention on science education, which needs special attention in an increasingly technological society.

Don Antonio de Ulloa is one of the greatest scientists and technicians who gave Spain and at the same time, one of the most unknown, despite being the discoverer of an element. He held important positions in the administration coming into office of Governor of Louisiana and Director General of the Navy. On this site, the authors try to honor the work of Don Antonio Ulloa and his contributions to Spanish science.

The objective of this project is to provide curriculum materials for teaching chemistry to throughout high school. As chemistry is not listed as a separate subject in secondary compulsory education, the materials are part of Natural Science and Physics and Chemistry subjects.

This matherial is divided in three sections: students, teachers and the general public.
The section of students is divided into compulsory secondary and high school education, including concept maps, animations, and interactive activities that serve as motivation and educational support to students. For upper grades, it allows students more control of the material and there are menus to provide access to the topic you wish to study. For high school students it includes learning objects and courses for use in the classroom. In the section for teachers we can find a description of the materials and a printable text version that can be modified by the teacher. General access does not lead to curriculum materials, but allows access to some pages, that develope basic concepts of chemistry from baseline to the second year of high school.

Aims:

- Develop and facilitate ICT-based learning activities in the context of teaching chemistry.

- Provide students with an study of chemistry which will include the following areas of study: States of matter and atomic theory and structure,

Use in classroom:
The educational materials are designed for classroom use.
COMMENTS
Points of strength:
This educational resource produced by Spanish Goverment covers contents of all levels and includes a variety of topics. STS content and history of science are treated on the site. Many units are visually appealing, interactive and most of the printable materials are interesting for the teacher.

Points of weakness:
It does not work with all browsers and there are some problems to display some content.

Scientific reliability:
Excellent.

Pedagogic value:
High pedagogic value. It´s perfectly adapted to Spanish curriculum and their teaching objects are the best example of ICT applied to teaching science.
