DESCRIPTION
As an addition to his excellent teaching portfolio some very good context-based videos have been made by Prof David Smith at University of York within the medicinal chemistry/biochemistry context.
In these, an every day observation is the starting point, and throughout the video, the underlying chemistry is explained.
This gives the viewer an opportunity to find out how chemistry, and amazing molecules make the world work. These videos present the organic chemistry of everyday life in an easily understood way. e
The nine videos featured are between nine and fifteen minutes in length, and they include discourses on:
Gin and Tonic
Painkillers
Friday Night Curry
Coca Cola
Explosives
Champagne
Flu and Swine Flu
Chemistry of Transplantation
COMMENTS
Professor David Smith is an excellent communicator of applied chemistry and particularly its usefulness in drug development. The videos have sometimes a personal tone that make them more engaging to the audience than any 'straight' chemistry lesson would be.
