DESCRIPTION
Skoool.pt is integrated in the worldwide initiative undertaken by Intel in the educational sector. Skoool is an innovative website of e-learning, developed to work in several devices and technological platforms: PC, PDA and mobile. It enables online and offline work modes. Myskoool, a content delivery system, is the application that enables users to use e-learning offline on the desired device.
Skoool technology can be used by teachers to support classes or used as a self-learning tool by students. The website provides guides for both teachers and parents.
The website is organized by education cycle. Second and third cycles comprising ages from 10 to 14 are included. The students from the second cycle can access two modules: natural sciences and mathematics, whereas for the third cycle natural sciences, mathematics and physical-chemistry are available. Additionally one module concerning didactical resources on mathematics and physics is included. Concerning physical-chemistry it is possible to access and download several activities. Some examples are: (1) Properties of solids, liquids and gases, (2) Boiling and melting point, (3) Structure and chemical bond (4) Neutralization reactions of everyday life, (5) pH scale, (6) Preparation of a salt from an acid and a base, (7) Acids and bases and acid-base indicators, (8) Metals, (9) Nonmetals, (10) Measure chemical reaction rate, among others.
The activities are of the step-learning and simulation type. Step-learning activities are organized in three levels: (1) Learning: here the concept to be learned is introduced, (2) Testing: here a quiz comprising two questions is purposed aiming at check student knowledge and (3) Reviewing: here the main ideas to be retained about the studied concept are presented in summary form. In simulation activities a demonstration is purposed that could be followed virtually and performed experimentally by the student.
