Topics related to the resource
The material shows in an interesting way the special position of carbon among all other chemical elements in the periodic system. It introduces to students the meaning of organic chemistry and organic synthesis to contemporary lifestyle. Contemporary life and scientifical and technical progress would not be possible without synthetic fuels, plastics, medicines, chemistry fibres, paints, polishes, detergents, plant protection products and other organic products. The intensive development of production and the use of organic substances lead to serious environmental problems worldwide. The beauty of chemical experiments is also revealed.
Examples of learning objectives
expanding knowledge of students on importance of chemistry as a means to improve quality of life. Observation of experiments which are too dangerous and impossible to perform directly. Increasing students‘ interest in natural science
Suggestion for use
1. The material can be used in organic chemistry class as a summary unit.
2. After seeing the movie, there might be a discussion on the topic
Insights into student
use / thinking
Students rated the material as interesting, easy to understand and efficient. It provokes their curiosity to the world around us, to the meaning of chemical knowledge in everyday life and to forming of proper attitude towards health care and environmental protection. The conducted experiments provoke greatest interest.
Teacher’s conclusions
Use of material during the learning process had a positive influence on implementation of objectives of chemistry education. The topic is directly linked to applications, including industrial and environmental problems enounced through opinions of representatives of academic and industrial sphere. It offers efficient approach to mastering chemistry knowledge through improving of English language.

National Reports on successful experiences to promote lifelong learning for chemistry The national reports on chemistry successful experiences to promote lifelong learning for chemistry are now available on the related section of the project portal. The reports presents examples of successful experiences in the partner countries and the results of testing of ICT resources with science teachers.
