DESCRIPTION
Ciência@Bragança is a science dissemination initiative promoted by Centro Ciência Viva (CCV) and Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB) in partnership with regional communication media (TV, radio and printed press). The project started during 2012 and accounts with financial support from COMPETE (Programa Operacional Factores de Competitividade) under the management of Ciência Viva – Agência Nacional para a Cultura Científica e Tecnológica.
It presents a set of interesting resources that can be used to support teaching activities or serve as a motivation tool. These resources are organized by topic or by the used communication media. In the first category the following main areas are covered: (1) Agriculture Sciences, (2) Education, Sports and Social Sciences, (3) Exact Sciences, (4) Natural Sciences, (5) Health Sciences and (6) Technologies. Videos, audio records and written texts can be consulted. Additionally, Ciência@Bragança site includes a virtual consulting office where questions can be addressed in order to be answered by scientific experts. Moreover several city MUPIS can be found in Bragança containing short messages making people increase their knowledge and promoting curiosity for scientific aspects. Everyday life science is in focus and scientific experts are approaching general public. Science is everywhere in Bragança!
COMMENTS
The site is devoted to promote science to general public but it can be also adapted/considered as a valuable teaching resource tool. It was created within a regional context where these type of initiatives are of irrefutable value. The site is under construction and contents actualization is being done at a good rhythm. I hope this site becomes a reference not only within a regional context but also at a national level.
